National Standards Sector Advisory Group (NSSAG)

The National Standards Sector Advisory Group provides a formal avenue for the education sector to contribute to the continuous improvement of the National Standards implementation.

The National Standards are descriptions of what students should know and be able to do in reading, writing and mathematics, at points throughout their schooling.

The NSSAG is an independent, broad group of sector representatives which meets regularly.

The group is focused on:

  • enhancing student achievement
  • working within the context of The New Zealand Curriculum
  • using National Standards to inform students, their parents, other stakeholders and teachers about levels of achievement and progress being made, and to identify how schools can best be supported to improve student performance.

Through open dialogue with the Minister, the Group aims to provide continued input into the National Standards implementation. Reports on our progress will continue to be updated on this website.
